How Your Voice Works: an Experiential Workshop

What: Discover your voice in an environment of support and curiosity. We’ll experience each part of the process, from impulse and breath to vibration and meaning. We’ll also play group games to connect with our communicative powers. I’m a private voice instructor and graduate student researcher in voice pedagogy, passionate about sharing the magic of human sound. This event is for teens and adults, for singers, performers, speakers, teachers, and anyone who is curious about the voice!
What to Bring: Wear comfortable clothes and shows. Snacks or drinks as you need. Tea, coffee and water will be provided.

May Oskan (she/they) is a vocalist, voice teacher, and student researcher based in Oakland. She performs and writes music for her band Psychic Friends Network, and also loves teaching songwriting and rough vocal effects.

CAR. There is street parking. It is a residential neighborhood. Thursday and Friday are street cleaning days with parking restrictions between 1230p-330p. If you find parking limited outside the space, please try Brush St. It is the street at the end of the block. Do NOT leave any valuables in your car.
BART. NewNow is a 10-12 minute walk from 19th Street Oakland BART. Arriving from San Francisco, you may prefer to take the first stop (West Oakland) and take a 5 minute LYFT or bike from there. The shortest distance to walk is from 19th St. BART.
BIKE. Bring your bike into NewNow. There is a secure area in the backyard. -
NewNow is a blue-gray building at the corner of 21st and West. There is no outside building signage. There is one 4 inch step into the space and two 4 inch steps down into the backyard.
